To me, there is nothing more exciting than discovering a property that is destined for global super stardom! An hour drive north and light years away from the touristy, unhinged party scene of Cabo San Lucas, lies Baja’s magical East Cape on the Sea of Cortez. This is not the Cabo you know, this is a completely different experience!
Formerly a stretch of sleepy fishing villages, surrounded by relatively untouched nature and set on 2 miles of white sand, swimmable beaches, lies the new home of the Four Seasons Costa Palmas. It was recently named by the NY Times as one of their top 15 picks for Places To Go in 2018, and the resort isn’t even open yet! (The resort is scheduled to be finished in fall of 2018).
Being a longtime, rabid Cabo fan, I couldn’t wait to experience this “secret” East Cape for myself. So I grabbed my bestie Susan, and jumped a jet to see what all the buzz was about. And buzz worthy it is! Stunning beach-side bungalows complimented by an unbelievably delicious menu at the beach palapa restaurant/bar, where we lazed the day away on “never wanna leave” day beds. This “pinch yourself” spot was to be our home for 3 days of discovery, relaxing and adventuring!
We quickly befriended Maria and Cody, part of the Four Seasons Aventura team of guides, coaches and concierges who tailored our day’s activities. Costa Palmas is rich in nearby hidden gems like “Rancho del Sol de Mayo”, a magical, riverside canyon where we hiked through waterfalls, jumped in and out of swimming holes and slid down natural rock water slides! A quick 15 minute drive south lands you in Cabo Pulmo National Park, for some spectacular snorkeling and diving (check it out on Instagram!) it’s one of only three coral reefs on the west coast of N. America and home to over 900 species of fish.
The area is also world famous for kite-boarding during the winter months because of the warm winds and endless sunshine. Horseback riding in the surf, paddle boarding, a yacht excursion and a special, farm to fork dining experience in the enchanting Herb Garden, surrounded by Costa Palmas’ 18 acres of organic farms rounded out our visit and made for a unique and unforgettable trip!
Ok, so that’s all amazing and good – but the question is, what will make this property unique and a phenom standout in the current glut of new luxury resort/residence offerings in Cabo and the Corridor? Well, as Michael Radovan, Vice President of Sales describes, “It’s a total rethink on Cabo”. Costa Palmas will be its own destination. They are not just offering a resort and residences, they are offering an unparalleled lifestyle! With 145 villas and homes (some with 100 ft private docks and captains quarters in the backyard), a private Beach & Yacht Club, a Robert Trent Jones designed 18 hole golf course (complete with “comfort stations” and taco bars) multiple pools, 5 restaurants, and the only private 250 slip, super yacht marina in Mexico with a St Tropez-esque marina village that will house boutiques, galleries, restaurants and clubs. Awesome right?! Oh, but wait, there’s more! Plans for a private equestrian center, marina front show barn and a beautiful “Tack Room” bar.
Here’s the kicker, the lavish hospitality doesn’t stop there- 2 world class luxury brand resorts plan to join the Four Seasons on their 1000 beach front acres! As of this writing, I’m not at liberty to spill the beans and name names, but suffice it to say, once it’s all materialized, you’ll never want or need to go anywhere else in Mexico again!
