The World’s Four Most Remote Villas

As we travel more and see the sights of the world, there comes a time when we want something a bit more secluded. There are villas around the world that are perfect for that seclusionary vacation for which we sometimes long. We’ve chosen four of our favorite remote villas around the world.

Cavedale Ridge

Located in the heart of wine country in Glen Ellen, California, our first pick is as remote as you’ll want to be when you visit Sonoma’s wine country.

Cavedale Ridge is a 10-acre hillside estate facing west, with spectacular views across the vineyards and orchards of the Valley of the Moon to the Sonoma Mountain range, Mount Tamalpais and, in the far distance, the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge. The house is surrounded by olive and bay trees and fragrant Mediterranean herbs such as lavender, rosemary, and manzanita. In spring, there are blossoming crab apple trees and other fruit trees.

It’s a dream villa for any wine lover. With it’s remote, yet still central location in Sonoma County, you’ll also be in close enough proximity to extend your wine tour throughout Napa County as well. Rates vary by season and start at $1,350 per night. Cavedale Ridge has a main house and a guest house. The entire property sleeps seven and boasts three master bedrooms. You will also enjoy a gourmet kitchen and plenty of outdoor space featuring a pool perfect for unwinding after spending the day wine tasting.

Sykamia Villa

Completely secluded on an island off of Greece in the Mediterranean Sea, Sykamia Villa features a stone villa located “in the beautiful sandy beach of Sykamia, which is in the Northeast part of Kea/Tzia and it is one of the best beaches of the island.” The villa itself has a private outdoor area that includes the pool and consists of three independent houses and two suites. Rent this villa along with The Sea View House across the way in its own private area.

A unique escape for large groups of friends, families and couples who want to relax by the sea, enjoy the nature and taste traditional food as well as some fresh fruits and vegetables from our yard, dependent on the season.

Here your nearest neighbor is seven miles away and the last part of the road into the villa is a dirt road. Better yet, the on-site staff live in a house on the property with its own dog run and the dog of the villa, a friendly Greek Shepherd named Odysseas. You’ll need to contact Sykamia directly for a quote and also for booking information.

Corrour Lodge

A perfect location for a family reunion, Corrour Lodge is eleven miles off the main road on a 60,000-acre estate. Each of the seven double bedrooms features an en-suite bathroom and making it a perfect family reunion spot, there’s a bunkhouse that sleeps 14 bringing the total capacity of the lodge to 30. The lodge’s seclusion has benefits especially for those who enjoy the outdoors and wish to participate in fishing, hiking, rowing, mountain biking, boating, or riding of the estate’s Icelandic mountain ponies. For the less outdoor-oriented, the lodge has an office, a library, a sauna, a gym, a game room, and of course, waterfront views of the Scottish Highlands.

They note, that “the current owners bought the estate in 1995. They built a new lodge, designed by Moshe Safdie, which was finished in 2003. It is a rare example of first-class twentieth-century architecture in Scotland. Built of granite, steel and glass, it is set between the surviving arms of its Victorian predecessor on the bank of Loch Ossian. The lodge’s geometric composition echoes the grandeur of its surrounds; pyramidal glass towers connect it with the wilderness beyond.” For rates and booking, contact Corrour Lodge.
