Instead of searching for a kennel or pet-sitter, why not take your family pet on vacation with you? These hotels and resorts take “pet-friendly” to a whole new level. More than friendly, they understand that it wouldn’t be a vacation without your fur baby and have programs to pamper your pet as well as you.
Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Spa, Coronado, California
We’ve been doing pet-friendly travel more than 10 years, and as pet-travel experts we’ve got a lineup of useful pet-friendly travel services and amenities to make your trip a breeze.
Loews welcomes your pet at check-in with a gift, including a name tag, bowl and special treats. They also provide pet beds, litter boxes, scratching posts, toys and other pet-ccessories so you can travel light, and your pet can feel at home.
All Loews hotels have an established pet program, but Loews Coronado gives its location a Southern California twist by offering organized surfing lesson, complete with doggy board shorts or a bandana and a surf ‘n’ turf meal for your four-legged friend. The property is also renowned for waiting on guests “hand and paw.” You’ll be given a list of local dog walking routes and poop scoop bags, and your dog can also play to his heart’s delight leash-free at Coronado Dog Beach. Executive Chefs along with licensed veterinarians have designed its “Loews Loves Pets” in-room dining menu to ensure proper nutrition, aimed to combat jetlag and other travel-related stress.

Your pet will be greeted by Ginger, the hotel’s official “Director of Pet Relations.” Ginger is usually near the concierge on a leopard-print bed. She is a celebrity of sorts, having done the morning-show circuit, including the “Today” show for a segment about pet-friendly hotels. The Muse has a special Pampered Pooch and a Hers and Furs package which provides in-room pedicures for a guest and her dog. Pets also receive a special welcome package with food and treats for both the dogs and their human companions when checking in. Pets are even welcome to join the nightly wine reception!
