Travel in Style: How Today’s K-Pop Groups Traverse the World

Hallyu is a term for the Korean wave.  South Korean pop culture has grown in prominence and is spreading all over the globe.  From Netflix to skincare to cuisine, Korean culture is no longer confined to Asia.  At the core of Hallyu is K-pop, which is short for Korean pop.  The popularity of K-pop musicians has risen steadily over the past few years, and these young pop stars are trendsetters.  They love to travel in style, so let’s take a look at how K-pop groups traverse the world.

Psy

The mega popular performer known as Psy was born as Park Jae-sang.  The South Korean singer, songwriter, rapper, dancer, record producer, and television personality has an estimated net worth of $25 million dollars.  He rose to worldwide fame with his mega hit, “Gangnam Style”. The song was a massive hit on YouTube and made him famous all around the globe.  The success of that song led to multiple performance engagements at popular events, and he followed it up with other successful hits.

Psy cruises in a custom made bullet proof Hyundai Equus.  According to Tameron Hyundai, “the Hyundai Equus fits the Gangnam Style mold exceedingly well. With the standard V8 5.0-liter engine, 8-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC, ultra-premium leather seating and 8-inch ultimate navigation system display, just to mention a few, the Equus has what it takes to push the “swag-meter” all the way to Gangnam Style.” It makes sense that the K-pop sensation would drive in a luxury Korean brand auto. Local Hyundai dealerships often provide him with the Equus in country.  On his trip to the United States, he was given one for his travels.  During his visit to Brazil, he was granted access to a one of a kind bullet proof Equus, used only by Psy and the Korean ambassador to Brazil.

BTS

BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy band formed by Big Hit Entertainment. The band debuted in 2013 and has had several hit songs.  Some recent chart toppers include “DNA” and “Mic Drop”.  The band has a massive social media presence.  BTS has broke multiple Twitter records and even earned a spot in the Guiness Book of World Records for having the most Twitter engagements.  They are frequently at the top of social influencer lists ranked by Time and Forbes.

Surprisingly, the group uses public airlines to travel internationally.  Thanks to their celebrity and high profile on social media, it has become more challenging for them to travel incognito. Recently, their label tweeted a message in multiple languages asking fans to stop intentionally booking travel on flights that BTS will be on and to give the group some space.  It sounds like it might be time for a private jet for BTS.

Twice

Twice, the South Korean girl group, was formed by JYP Entertainment through the 2015 reality show Sixteen. This K-pop group has nine members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. Their single “Cheer Up” propelled them to fame, and their follow up release, “TT” was also a hit.  The group has been successful enough to stage their own solo tour.

Twice fans were delighted to get a glimpse of their favorite band jetting from Korea to Japan in a chartered plane. Due to a hectic schedule that included two shows in Japan with a show in Korea in between, the band opted to charter a private plane to make it all happen.  They jetted back and forth between the two countries in luxury and clearly enjoyed the experience, as evidenced by the many images they posted on their Twitter feed! The Korean Air Boeing Business Jet they chartered offers both a VIP Zone and a Business Zone. The VIP Zone has 4 bedrooms and 6 VIP seats, while the Business Zone contains 180-degree lie-flat sleeper seats. Perfect for K-Pop stars.

So, tell us, would you want to jet set to Asia?  We have a great travel guide for South Korea.  Who knows, you might even see one of these K-pop stars!
