Experience the Glamour of Sardinia

With more than 1,200 miles of coastline, Sardinia is one of the largest Italian islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Whether you’re looking for an exciting adventure or just want to get away from the mainland, the island has plenty of hidden gems to explore. It’s local cuisine and secluded beaches along with more exclusive locations such as Costa Smeralda offer visitors some of the most unforgettable experiences. These are just some of our favorites spots in Sardinia.

Beaches

Along with some of the most secluded beaches in the world, Sardinia is also populated with miles of white sand surrounded by crystal clear water. Whether you prefer sand dunes or rugged cliffs, you’re sure to find the perfect relaxation spot.

Traveling with the family? Head down to southern Sardinia to visit Chai Beach. This horseshoe-shaped lagoon offers shallow waters and exotic reefs for snorkeling. You might even spot some flamingos in the breeding grounds behind the beach! You might also go for a swim at Spiaggia Rena Bianca to experience some of the clearest water on the island or hike along the trails to see some of Sardinia’s interesting rock formations.

If you’re looking for a more adventurous day, we recommend visiting Cala Brandinchi. Also known as “Little Tahiti”, this beach is perfect for kitesurfers and birdwatchers. The bay is also surrounded by pine woods for a feeling of seclusion. You can even explore the island by boat and anchor in Golfo di Orosei to see the hidden caves and grottoes. Many rock climbers enjoy its expansive cliffs above the blue waters for a breathtaking view.

Costa Smeralda

Home to some of the most exclusive beaches on Sardinia and a celebrity escape for the likes of George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio, Costa Smeralda is one of the most popular destinations on the whole island. Scattered with private golf clubs and yachts, this is truly a luxurious getaway. Events range from food and wine festivals to more exclusive affairs such as the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. A range of rooms are available to guests including hotels, villas and suites. We recommend booking a suite with a pool for an unforgettable stay with some of the best views of the ocean. Attend a golf class at the Pevero Golf Club or try your hand at tennis for customized programs and lessons. You can even book a fishing trip with the Long Beach Charter Fishing Team. Restaurants

A trip to Italy wouldn’t be complete without an incredible dining experience. One of our favorite Sardinia dishes is fresh pasta, which you can always find at Antica Trattoria. Try both their land and sea menus, consisting of plates such as gnocchi galluresi or a traditional pizza. And don’t forget to grab a seat in their courtyard garden to enjoy the warm breeze in the summer!

You can also head over to Il Portico for some of the best seafood dishes on the island. Owned by the Ladu brothers, the restaurant’s modern artwork and arched ceilings give an added sense of elegance and luxury with a menu to match. We recommend trying the caviar, artichoke, octopus and salmon crepe appetizer for a unexpected burst of flavor. The menu also changes with the seasons, but always includes their fresh pasta and local seafood.

From the glamour of Costa Smeralda to the white sand beaches and flavorful food, Sardinia is full of culture and adventure. As the fifth most-populated European island, it has a little something for everyone to explore. Spend your day snorkeling in the turquoise water or take a golf or tennis lesson by the sea. No matter where you go on Sardinia, you’re sure to find a beautiful escape and even better food. Can’t get enough Italian cuisine? Check out the work behind the magic with expert chef Mario Batali!
